14. The Quiet
VITH (Voice-in-the-Head), the reporter-announcer-narrator of MOP’s thought production, chatters constantly. VITH’s chatter can drive you up the wall, especially at night when you want to go to sleep. To quiet the chattering VITH and bring peace, serenity, and tranquility to the brain-mind, many religious and spiritual teachers promote the use of meditation. But quieting VITH isn’t easy. This chapter takes a closer look at VITH’s chatter and provides a Producer Consciousness method for quieting VITH. To have this discussion, we’ve come up with six Zones of Quiet ranging from constant chatter (Zone 1) to total quiet (Zone 6).
